Three-quarters of our barrels are made from French oak by several different coopers:
  • Seguin Moreau
  • J.J. Nadlie
  • Francois Freres
One quarter of our barrels are made from American oak, and are purchased mainly from Mendocino Cooperage.

Generally, we age our red wines for two years in a combination of French and American oak barrels. The amount of aging and the type of oak is determined by the winemaker according to the taste and characteristics of the individual varietal. Wines needing more structure, such as reds, would likely be aged for some time in American oak, whereas, with the whites we really like to extract the vanilla flavor we get from our French barrels.
