Daniel Zepponi
President and Co-Proprietor

A third-generation vintner, Dan Zepponi is part of the pioneering fabric that pieced together the early wine industry in California. The Zepponis were a newly immigrated Italian family when they planted their first vines in a small vineyard site near the historic town of Sonoma. Their wine business dream was furthered by the purchase a vineyard site on the Silverado Trail where they established ZD Winery as a premium producer of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

Dan grew up in the wine business starting at the young age of 5, hauling hoses in his family’s cellar at ZD Winery. In his teenage years, he assisted in all  facets of the winery’s operations until it was sold after the  untimely passing of his father and ZD co-founder, Gino Zepponi.

After graduating with a Engineering  degree from U.C. Berkeley, Dan spent a few years on the east coast pursuing an aviation career.  However, he was soon drawn back  to his winery roots to  operate some of North America’s finest vineyards and wineries including Beringer, Mission Hill and a collection of prestigious wine brands  such as Etude, Chateau St. Jean, St. Clement and Stags’ Leap Winery.

With purchase of Valley of the Moon and Lake Sonoma Winery, Dan is thrilled to carry on the Zepponi family winemaking legacy that began over half a century ago.
